Somatic Ballet

Somatic practice meets ballet

Ballet, when practiced carefully, is one of the best ways to train the whole body. It effectively develops the strength, mobility, body control and good alignment. Somatic Self-care teaches body awareness, conscious presence, listening to your own body and maintenance. Somatic Ballet combines the two.

Conscious training done by listening our bodies is safe. However, all kinds of injuries and problems in the musculoskeletal system significantly affect the planning and implementation of the teaching, so it is always important to inform the teacher while booking. Somatic Self-care training is modifiable for everyone, but in Somatic Ballet injuries of the musculoskeletal system can have such a significant impact that they prevent the method from being fully practiced (especially severe knee injuries).

The classes start with preparing mat work and move to the barre and end up on middle floor section. The classes are always based on your personal needs and improving points.

Wear comfortable clothes, preferably tight-fitting pants (e.g. leggings) and bring a water bottle. You can practice with socks, or, if you wish, also with soft ballet training shoes.

No dancing/training backround

  • The method effectively increases the mobility and strength.

  • You'll learn to know your body, releasing unnecessary tensions and control your movement in a whole new level.

  • You'll learn about the good alignment, how to restore and maintain it.

  • You'll learn ergonomic use of your body.

  • In addition to strength, mobility and alignment, classes also effectively develop body control, coordination, sense of rhythm and balance.

Ballet Clinic for dancers

In my life I see a lot of dancers whose development has stopped. Too often I see dancers who suffer from knee or back problems. The most of the issues could be avoided. Everyone has a potential to train safely and develop, regardless of the age or how often you can participate in classes.

In a big group the teacher doesn't have time or opportunity to give you enough individual guidance. Each body is different, each of us have our own areas to develop. Just participating classes is not enough to cover your needs if your goal is to develop and train safely without breaking your body. You shouldn't either ever participate in a class without decent warm-up and preparation which is all on you!

When ballet is your hobby, it's on yourself to take care of additional training and quality practice in classes. It's very important to know what and how to do in order to take care of your safety and progress.

The truth is that if your development doesn't seem to go nowhere or you're having pain of any kind, you are practicing carelessly on a shaky ground. The foundation must be solid.

At Ballet Clinic we go back to the roots and create that solid foundation that opens the world of development for you.

  • We'll map your current overall situation, areas of development and goals you have, and base the training to those.

  • You'll learn about functional anatomy and all about the good alignment.

  • You'll gain deeper understanding of the movement and ballet technique.

  • The quality of your movement improves significantly.

  • You'll learn how to work with your body independently as an additional training.

  • Your training becomes safe.

Somatic Ballet is also arrangeable as a course/weekly classes for your group. Contact me and we'll make it happen.
