Pilates

Somatic practice as a promoter of physical wellbeing

Pilates, originally called The Pilates Art of Contrology, is a form of exercise developed by the German Joseph Pilates (1880-1967). The method aims to achieve comprehensive control of the body through increasing body awareness, strengthening and stretching the body. At the heart of the training are precision and care, understanding of functional anatomy, breathing techniques and the core of the body as the basis of movement. Today, Pilates serves as a supplementary training for dancers, horse riders, gymnasts and other exercisers, singers, musicians and actors. It is a significant promoter of well-being and health for sedentary workers, and significantly promotes the recovery of mothers of young children and the rehabilitation of rehabilitation patients. In short, we can say that everyone benefits from Pilates.

Pilates has also gained a foothold in healthcare due to its numerous health and well-being-promoting effects and its safety. Pilates is not a substitute for healthcare services, but can support them. However, if you have any musculoskeletal problems that require healthcare treatment, you should always consult a doctor before starting exercise.

Wellbeing promoting effects

The aim of the exercise is to find and maintain good body alignment, and to learn how to use the body economically.

The majority of people suffer from musculoskeletal problems at some point in their lives. Many of these problems are caused by inadequate body awareness and care, incorrect body alignment, poor movement patterns and/or incorrect postures. This causes undue strain on the muscles, joints and spine, which manifests itself as tension and pain.  A strong, open and well-aligned body is light to carry. Muscles are relaxed, movement is easy, sitting is effortless and energy flows freely.

A strong connection to one's own body and sufficient knowledge of functional anatomy, together with good body control and conscious use of the body, helps to prevent accidents and correct the movement patterns and incorrect postures that strain the body.

With exercises that open and strengthen the body, it is possible to restore good body alignment, and also maintain it throughout life.

Imagine what it would be like if you knew your own body so well that you could keep it in top condition?

You have the ability to do so

Exercise helps the body restore its natural balance and harmony.

  • When there is space in the body, the muscles are freed from unnecessary work and your whole being becomes light and effortless.

  • When the muscles do not suffer from excessive strain, they are freed to remove toxins and deliver oxygen and nutrients to the tissues, thus increasing the vitality of the entire body.

  • Exercise maintains the body's natural mobility and teaches ergonomic use of the body, effectively preventing the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders and helping to correct problems that have already arisen.

  • Exercise promotes the balanced functioning of the circulatory, digestive and lymphatic systems, calms the nervous system, strengthens the lungs, and improves the body's ability to absorb oxygen.

The body and mind are one. The state of the body has a direct response to the state of our mind, and vice versa.

Imagine what it would feel like to wake up refreshed, enjoy life, and live in total balance and harmony?

You have the ability to do so.

Exercise sharpens your sixth sense

The conscious practice requires learning to listen and sense your own body.

The mind is strongly present, and attention is focused on our kinesthetic sense, i.e. the sense of position and movement.

The kinesthetic sense is your sixth sense, which allows you to sense your body internally. For example, it allows you to describe the position of your hand in detail without looking at it. Training the kinesthetic sense is a meditative exercise that strengthens the ability to feel and correct yourself. Hone your sense to its peak helps you notice even the smallest nuances of your body and enables a completely new dimension of body care and control.

Imagine what it would feel like to be able to observe your body's state,

its sensations and positions in your everyday life and modify them while you go?

You have the ability to do so.
